Technical Data Sheet
Insultex is a revolutionary, patented, closed-cell Low Density Polyethylene foam. It consists of a three-dimensional network of a countless number of evacuated micro-cells that significantly reduce heat transfer and sound levels. The result of these countless number of evacuated cells is the creation and enforcement of a thermal and sound energy tortuous path within the Insultex. The definition of tortuous is “full of twists, turns or bends”. This three-dimensional tortuous path of energy transport leads to a significant increase in the effective thickness of the Insultex, thus increasing the effective energy transport route and therefore increasing the insulation effectiveness. It has been proven that a vacuum is, by far, the best known thermal and acoustical insulator, and this is the reason that Insultex has excellent thermal and acoustical properties. These micro-cells, when stacked, create a “winding” tortuous path of thermal energy and sound wave transport to resist thermal and sound wave transfer more effectively. The more evacuated cells that are stacked, the better the thermal and acoustical insulation properties.
Benefits of Insultex
*Lightweight *Buoyant (8.8 oz. can float 287 lbs) *Pliable
*Thin (1.1 mm thick) *Air Resistant(Reduced Air Drafts) *Windproof
*Durable *Mold and Mildew Resistant *Low Coefficient of Friction
* Abrasion Resistant *Ultraviolet Radiation Resistant * Impact Resistant
* Easy to Clean *Chemical Resistant * Good Electrical Properties
*Waterproof(Protects against rotting and other water damage) * Good Moisture Vapor Permeability(Allows moisture to escape to prevent mold and mildew) *Excellent Thermal (Significant R-Value) and Acoustical (Significant Noise Reduction) Insulation Properties due to the revolutionary, patented evacuated cell technology inherent to Insultex.
* High Volume Fraction of Vacuum which significantly enhances the Thermal and Acoustical Insulation Properties. *Can be easily cut (Scissors or retractable / folding knife) for quick and efficient installation on any building structure or non-building related item such as clothing.
*Can be directly fastened to any type of plywood sheathing by conventional methods, including surface-treated and surface-coated plywood. As a result, the drainage efficiency, moisture vapor transmission rate, water resistance, air permeance, thermal insulation and acoustical insulation of the building envelope will be significantly improved.
